Houston is one of the only places in the world where the economy (measured by nominal GDP) is growing the fastest.
The attached table shows that Houston is the fastest growing GDP in the whole United States and is estimated to grow to $ 837 B by the end of 2025. By then, we will have moved from 28 th place in 2021 to 21 st place in 2025 among all the countries in the world. We will have overtaken Taiwan, Sweden, Belgium, Argentina, Ireland, UAE, and Singapore. And we are only a metro city compared to these countries. And we are not even counting the effect of FIDA in 2026.
Why is that so?
First: We are the World Capital of Energy, not only oil and gas but also all other forms of energy and leaders
in the world energy transition. Energy represents 20% of Houston metro GDP.
Second: we have the biggest Medical Center in the world who is expanding by 30 to 40 % as we write. $ 3.9 B investment going on. Medical represents 15 % of Houston metro GDP.
Third: We have NASA (Johnson Space Center) and the Space Port and a slew of Aerospace EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) companies and space manufacturing companies all growing by leaps and bounds. The aerospace industry represents 15% of Houston metro GDP.
Fourth: We have now the biggest Maritime Port in the United States after we overtook Long Beach in Ca.
With the expansion of the Panama Canal and the passage of Panamax size ships, we decided to invest $ 3 T to deepen and widen our ship channel, expand our container terminals, our bulk handling facilities and
our liquid volumes. We expect to see a doubling of the Port GDP in the next 5 years.
The Port activities represent 15% of Houston metro GDP.
Fifth: Our GHP (Greater Houston Partnership, Economic Engine of the region) announces regularly the move of large companies’ headquarters to Houston and major investments up to $ 500 B in new facilities,
and growing industries such as Energy, Medical, Pharma, Semiconductors, Tech, AI, etc.
Go Houston go.
